목적에 기반한 파트너십
50년 이상의 지속 가능성, 청정 에너지, 기후 변화 대응 경험을 지닌 TERI는 이번 협력에서 탁월한 전문성과 지역사회 연결 능력을 제공했습니다. 과학 연구 및 커뮤니티 참여 분야에서 세계적으로 인정받는 TERI는 기술적 엄격성과 인간 중심적 솔루션이 필요한 프로젝트의 완벽한 파트너였습니다.
우리는 함께 농촌 공동체가 직면한 물 부족, 에너지 불안정, 열악한 위생, 금융 및 디지털 문해력 부족과 같은 복합 문제들을 해결하기 위해 프로젝트 하모니 2.0을 설계했습니다. 단순히 즉각적인 문제 해결을 넘어, 장기적이고 지속 가능한 발전의 기반을 다지는 것이 우리의 공동 목표였습니다.
왜 '물'에 집중했는가?
물은 단순한 자원이 아니라 생명의 본질입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 전 세계 20억 명 이상의 사람들이 안전하게 관리되는 수자원 서비스를 이용하지 못하고 있습니다. 특히 인도 하리아나-라자스탄 국경과 같은 반건조 및 물 부족 지역에서는 기후 변화, 급속한 도시화, 비효율적인 물 관리로 인해 상황이 더욱 악화되고 있습니다.
여성과 아동이 특히 이 위기의 가장 큰 피해자입니다. 먼 거리를 걸어 물을 길러야 하며, 그 과정에서 교육과 고용 기회를 잃고 기본적인 존엄성마저 침해당합니다. 또한, 학교의 열악한 위생 환경은 여학생들의 결석과 중퇴로 이어집니다. 이러한 체계적 문제들은 단순한 자선 활동을 넘어 '변화'를 요구합니다.
프로젝트 하모니 2.0: 통합적 설계, 인간 중심 접근
이 프로젝트는 지속 가능한 공동체 개발의 모든 측면을 아우르는 다층적 개입으로 구성되었습니다.
깨끗한 물 인프라 구축
주요 정부 학교 및 교육 기관에 빗물 수집 시스템을 설치하여 연중 내내 깨끗하고 안전한 식수를 제공했습니다. 또한 지역 연못을 정비하여 지하수 재충전 및 지역 생태 균형 회복에 기여했습니다. 오염되고 방치되었던 물 저장고들이 다시 공동체 자산으로 탈바꿈했습니다.
교육을 위한 청정 에너지
지역 정부 학교에 3kW급 태양광 발전소를 설치했습니다. 이를 통해 잦은 정전 문제를 해결했을 뿐만 아니라, 청년들에게 재생 에너지 모델을 실생활에서 보여주었습니다. 이 에너지는 교실, 실험실, 디지털 인프라를 구동하여 학습의 연속성을 보장하고 있습니다.
인식 제고 및 역량 강화
10회 이상의 인식 캠프를 통해 학생, 교사, 여성 자조 그룹(SHG) 회원, 마을 리더들에게 물 절약, 위생 관리, 환경 지속 가능성에 대해 교육했습니다. 특별히 개발된 교육 모듈을 통해 디지털 및 금융 문해력 향상에도 기여했습니다.
실습 학습 및 체험 방문
참가자들은 TERI의 지속 가능성 캠퍼스를 방문해 물 절약 기술을 직접 체험했습니다. 이를 통해 간단하고 확장 가능한 솔루션이 어떻게 지역 사회를 변화시킬 수 있는지 눈으로 보고 배울 수 있었습니다.
임직원 자원봉사
밸런스히어로의 임직원들도 핵심적인 역할을 수행했습니다. 스킬 기반 자원봉사 프로그램을 통해 금융 교육을 제공하고 현장에서 다양한 활동에 참여하며 조직의 미션과 공동체 영향력 간의 연결을 강화했습니다.

하지만 수치 이상의 변화가 진정한 의미를 담고 있습니다. 이제 학교에서 깨끗한 물을 마시는 아이들, 위생 문제로 수업을 빠지지 않아도 되는 여학생들, 금융권리를 깨닫고 가족의 미래를 계획하는 여성들의 이야기가 진정한 변화를 보여줍니다.
ESG(환경, 사회, 지배구조) 의지의 증거
프로젝트 하모니 2.0은 밸런스히어로의 ESG 여정에서 중요한 이정표입니다. 우리는 환경적 지속 가능성, 사회적 형평성, 강력한 거버넌스라는 원칙에 따라 기업 활동에 '임팩트'를 심고 있습니다. 이번 프로젝트는 UN 지속 가능 개발 목표(SDGs) 중 깨끗한 물과 위생(SDG 6), 저렴하고 청정한 에너지(SDG 7), 양질의 교육(SDG 4), 성평등(SDG 5) 에 부합합니다.
우리는 단순한 CSR을 넘어선 접근 방식을 통해 포용적 성장과 환경 보호가 공존할 수 있음을 입증했습니다. 우리의 목표는 단순히 개인을 돕는 것이 아니라, 물리적, 사회적, 경제적 생태계를 함께 강화하는 것입니다. 6,000명 이상의 삶에 긍정적인 영향을 미친 우리 CSR 활동의 연장선에서, 이번 프로젝트는 우리가 책임 있는 성장을 지속하려는 의지를 더욱 굳건히 다져줬습니다.
앞으로의 길
이 프로젝트의 성공은 기업과 공동체가 '목적'을 가지고 협력할 때 진정한 변화를 이룰 수 있다는 믿음을 다시 확인시켜주었습니다. 우리는 앞으로도 이러한 프로그램을 확장하고, 혁신을 통해 영향력을 극대화하며, 새로운 파트너십을 통해 우리의 발자취를 넓혀 나갈 것입니다.

Transforming Communities, One Drop at a Time: How Balancehero and TERI Delivered Sustainable Impact Through Water Conservation and Education
At Balancehero, we believe that the true success of a business lies in the positive and lasting impact it creates in the communities it serves. Our commitment to responsible growth is anchored in our purpose of enabling financial inclusion, social equity, and environmental resilience. It is with this philosophy that we recently completed our landmark CSR initiative: Project HARMONY 2.0: Be Water Wise, in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
A Purpose-Driven Partnership
TERI, with a legacy of over five decades in the fields of sustainable development, clean energy, and climate action, brought unparalleled expertise and grassroots reach to this collaboration. Recognized globally for their scientific research and community engagement, TERI was a natural partner to execute an initiative that demanded both technical rigor and human-centered solutions.
Together, we designed Project HARMONY 2.0 to tackle a range of interlinked challenges faced by rural communities—water scarcity, energy insecurity, poor sanitation, and lack of financial and digital literacy. Our shared goal was to create integrated solutions that not only addressed immediate needs but also laid the foundation for long-term, sustainable development.
Why Focus on Water?
Water is not just a resource; it is the very essence of life. And yet, more than two billion people worldwide lack access to safely managed water services. In India, particularly in semi-arid and water-stressed regions like the Haryana-Rajasthan border, the problem is compounded by climate change, rapid urbanization, and inefficient water management.
Women and children often bear the brunt of this crisis, walking miles to fetch water and losing out on education, employment, and basic dignity. Poor sanitation in schools further contributes to absenteeism and dropouts, especially among girls. These systemic issues call for interventions that go beyond charity—they demand transformation.
Project HARMONY 2.0: Holistic in Design, Human in Approach
The project was conceptualized as a multi-layered intervention that touched every aspect of sustainable community development:
Clean Water Infrastructure
We implemented rainwater harvesting systems in key government schools and educational institutions, ensuring year-round access to clean and safe drinking water. In addition, local ponds were rejuvenated, helping replenish groundwater tables and improving the region's ecological balance. These water bodies, often polluted and neglected, were restored to serve as community assets.
Clean Energy for Education
A 3KW solar power plant was installed at a local government . This not only addressed frequent power outages but also served as a live model for renewable energy adoption among youth. The energy generated now powers the school’s classrooms, labs, and digital infrastructure, enabling uninterrupted learning.
Awareness and Capacity Building
Through more than 10 awareness camps, we reached students, teachers, women SHG members, and village leaders. These sessions focused on water conservation techniques, hygiene practices, and environmental sustainability. Specially developed training modules also addressed digital and financial literacy, preparing rural youth for a digital-first future.
Hands-On Learning & Exposure Visits
Participants were taken to TERI’s sustainability campus to experience water conservation technologies in action. This hands-on exposure helped them visualize how simple, scalable solutions can change their own communities. The focus was on converting awareness into action.
Employee Volunteering
Balancehero employees played a vital role in the initiative. As part of our skill-based volunteering program, team members participated in training sessions, shared financial literacy insights, and engaged in on-ground activities. This internal engagement strengthened the connection between our organizational mission and community impact.

But beyond numbers, it is the stories of transformation that truly reflect the depth of impact. Children who now drink clean water in school. Young girls who no longer skip classes due to inadequate sanitation. Women who are now aware of their financial rights and have the tools to plan for their families’ future.
A Testament to Our ESG Commitment
Project HARMONY 2.0 is a cornerstone of Balancehero’ ESG journey. Guided by the principles of environmental sustainability, social equity, and strong governance, we are embedding impact into every aspect of our operations. This initiative aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Gender Equality (SDG 5).
By choosing to go beyond transactional CSR, we have demonstrated that inclusive growth and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. Our goal is not just to uplift individuals, but to empower ecosystems—physical, social, and economic. With over 6000 lives already touched through our broader CSR work, this project strengthens our resolve to drive inclusive and environmentally responsible growth.
What Lies Ahead
As we close this chapter, we also look ahead. The success of this initiative reaffirms our belief that meaningful change is possible when companies and communities come together with purpose. We remain committed to scaling such programs, leveraging innovation, and forming partnerships that amplify our impact.
